CD inventory

Saturday, May 19, 2007

Somehow I’ve managed to collect quite a stack of music over the last 13 months.

These are all probably going to have to be shipped back by mail, because I don’t think I have enough room in my luggage:

Albums

Singles

Total Disc Count: 14

(The Manabi Straight! soundtracks are two-disc sets.)

Going along with the CDs will be six volumes of Yotsuba&! and 15 volumes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (which I could sell to the local used book shop, but the money I’d get for everything would be so pitifully insignificant that I might as well hang onto them for future reading).

Funny how stuff builds up over time. But I suppose that’s how travel works.

And you didn’t list any recordings we sent! Is it cheaper to mail or to have an extra piece of checked luggage?

When I left I used one of those CD holder books. Put the inserts and obis on one side of the page and the CD on the other. I had closer to 40 cds though, mostly singles. I left a heavy stack of empty cases in Japan. Shipping from Japan is expensive, avoid it if you can. I spent more mailing my books back than they were worth there but probable still cheaper than re-buying here.

It’s probably cheaper to throw away your old clothes (it’s probably time for new ones anyway) than to have to pay for shipping stuff back.

Derek Schaab wrote on May 22:

I’m trying to be very ruthless about what I take back and what I throw out. For just one box, I think the price of shipping is worth not having to drag around the extra weight when I travel to Osaka.

Michael Bostwick wrote on May 22:

You can get some of your baggage shipped to kansai for not too much. That would make the trip to the airport easier.

Derek Schaab wrote on May 24:

Actually, it turns out I’m a lot closer than I thought I was on packing space… If I can make it through the next few days without adding anything significant I think it’s doable. Otherwise it’ll be a very interesting game of Tetris.

David Schaab wrote on May 25:

At least we know we don’t need to bring a trailer to meet you at the airport Tuesday night!

Gordon McCleary wrote on May 26:

We’ll be glad to have you back in the good old U.S. of A! You know, you and your siblings could keep this journal thing up…maybe every couple weeks?

Derek Schaab wrote on May 26:

Hey, there’s an idea—perhaps a Schaab Family blog?

David Schaab wrote on May 26:

Girls want me to have a My Space for the soccer team – probably doable but might get boring. I mean, how many chicken stories can we tell!?

Derek Schaab wrote on May 28:

Please, anything but MySpace, it’s so… pedestrian.

I think the packing worries are over now. I really hope they don’t inspect my bags, though. There are a lot of wrapped present-ish things, because when you buy anything significant here it gets wrapped at the store. Maybe I’ll get lucky this time and they’ll pick someone else.
