Welcome to Kansai International Airport

Less than two hours will see me on the way from Japan to North America.

Yay, free internet. (More importantly, free power, but they don’t advertise that.) I’m going to assume no one here is l33t enough to sniff wireless packets. Not like I’m transmitting anything confidential anyway. My mail goes over SSL, but they seem to be blocking those ports, so I can’t send or receive anything at the moment.

There’s not much left except waiting. I’m through check-in, security, and immigration, all quickly and without incident. For whatever reason I used Japanese without thinking. Yes, it’s that natural now—amazing what a year will do for language ability. If, after I get back, I unintentionally switch over to Japanese while we’re talking, just nod your head and pretend you know what I’m saying. I often talk to myself in Japanese now, so it might take a short time to get used to using only English again.

About an hour and a half is left before departure. If I’m lucky I can make it to Dallas without accidentally overhearing the score from Game 1. But considering I’m on an Air Canada flight, that might not work out. I’ll continue to post updates as I can—I have some pretty lengthy layovers ahead in Vancouver and Denver, so stay tuned.

Game recorded – in 3 pieces as the networked locked up. I got it restarted and then not thinking about the clock noted it was about to end recording and the game had lots of time. Stopped and re-started (good game). It is about 16 hours until your arrival – I’ll probably catch flight status at work.

Watching flight status – looks like you will be about an hour early into Vancouver (oh boy, more layover time!) – avoid the newspaper, you are in HOCKEY LAND (Canada). Most airports you can find power outlets but not always free Internet (DFW is not free, for example). If something changes call my cell (forgot the number, check out soccer site). See you in about 10 hours.

Oops – wrong flight – you are still early but not the hour. Interesting, DFW does not show your flight coming in (and yes, I rechecked the flight numbers!)

Welcome Home – even if the final leg was about 3 hours late!
