Twenty-five days to go

Monday, March 20, 2006

At long last a launch date has been set, and departure is a matter of weeks away.

Are you ready?

That’s the question David Sedlacek posed to me yesterday in an e-mail. The answer is most definitely yes, and I didn’t wait long to pick up a plane ticket to Okayama airport (via Seoul) inside the date range he gave me. My flight leaves DFW at 12:30 on Thursday, April 13, and if all goes well I will set foot on Japanese soil on the evening of April 14.

The sole negative to all this is that there hasn’t been any significant change in the support I have received. I have enough for one year in Japan, but the second year is still up in the air. Reason seems to say that it’s better for me to go to Japan with what I have now and see if God wants me to stay longer than a year—if that’s the case, God is big enough to provide the necessary funds. Who knows? One year is a long time. Something amazing could happen next year or even next week.

Next up on the Master Pre-departure Checklist is for the Japanese Consulate in Houston to work their processing magic and put a visa in my passport. After that happens, I’m officially good to go.
