The Week When Everything Happens starts early this month.
Saturday begins Sports Week for the Tsushima Church crowd. First it’s inline skating at Action Sports Park Okayama (or ASPO—pronounced like the name of the snake plus “o”). I’ve been volunteered to give a skating lesson at said event. Which is actually something I’ve never done before, and now I get to do it in a second language. That is, if the rain holds off.
The skating fun continues next Wednesday with a trip to the international skating rink for the much colder version of the sport. No lesson time there for me. I’m not particularly fond of ice skating anyway—polyurethane on pavement feels much more comfortable and stable than metal on frozen water to me.
Ice Day is followed next Thursday by an it’s-been-a-while basketball practice in the Momotaro Arena. One of these days we’re slated to take on Saidaiji Christ Church in a no-holds-barred winner-takes-all game of hoops. According to Pastor Goto, the local b-ball authority who goes by the moniker GT in the circle that includes only Matt and myself, Saidaiji is a powerhouse on the court. Having few persons enthusiastic about basketball and even fewer with mad skillz, our chances of getting majorly skooled by our mother church are just shy of the stratosphere. But we’ll give ‘em a good game anyway.
Yes, we at TCC enjoy the sports.
